Lunchtime activities prove very popular

The extensive range of Lunchtime activities on offer this year have proved quite a hit with students. Mr. Tommy Barrett, overall co-ordinator of the activities estimates that over a 150 students are currently taking part on a weekly basis.

The selection of activities available for all students to participate in include:

Outdoor Soccer and Basketball

Indoor Soccer

Board Games

College Information Sessions

Table Tennis

and a Nintendo Wii Club

All activities are supervised and organised by teachers.

CU at school !!

On the 26th October the school Credit Union was opened at lunch by the Transition Year students in Coláiste Íde agus Iosef. Prior to the opening day there were interviews held in the school for the positions available and also a training day was held in Abbeyfeale Credit Union. A picture was taken of the Credit Union team by a local newspaper on the day of the opening. The new service proved to be very popular among the students particularly the first years. People who lodged or opened an account on the day were entered into a draw for “Freaky Friday” and the prize was two tickets to the Knocknagoshel Halloween Trail which was held on the following Sunday.

If students are already members of the Abbeyfeale Credit Union they can lodge money every Friday and if students would like to open an account then they will need to bring in a copy of their passport or birth certificate, their PPS Number and a household bill from a parent and lodge €10 for their first lodgement. The Credit Union is open every Friday at lunch and will have various giveaways during the year to reward students for saving with them. It is early days yet but hopefully it will be a huge success.
