Community Spirit in Colaiste Ide agus Iosef

The Leaving Certificate Home Economics students of Colaiste Ide agus
Iosef with their teacher Ms O’Shaughnessy have recently made up food
hampers which they donated to St. Vincent de Paul. These hampers will
be given to families in the locality in time for Christmas. The
students collected food throughout November from the staff and
students in Colaiste Ide agus Iosef and would like to thank everyone
for their generous response. We would also like to thank local shops
and friends for donations.

First Silverware for Basketballers

The Colaiste Ide & Iosef first year girls claimed their first silverware of the season at the recent first year basketball blitz in Castleisland. The Colaiste team coached by Claire Sheehy took a highly commendable runners-up spot after falling just short in the final to hosts Presentation Castleisland. Impressive wins against Listowel, Dingle and St. Angela's Cork paved the way to the final. This fine preseason form augurs well for the league which commences January next.

Kings Of Munster

King Cup Winners colaiste Ide agus Iosef

Colaiste Ide agus Iosef, won their first Munster title last Friday when they overcame CBS (the green) Tralee in terrible conditions in Castleisland. The King Cup final, a competition for junior sides, in Munster Rugby finished on a scoreline of 23-5 in favour of the new school. In a hard fought game the Abbeyfeale squad kept the upper hand through the first half.  They came out after half time determined to put their stamp totally on the game. Two tries from Keith Murphy along with 13 points from the boot of Cormac Roche helped to propel the county Limerick school to this historic first and a place in the mungret shield competition.

Trip to the Burren

Some students enjoying time in Burren

On Wednesday, 7th September 2011, the transition year students of Coláiste Íde agus Iosef, Abbeyfeale set off on their journey to the Burren Outdoor Activity Centre.  This trip was to help us the students of the newly amalgamated school to bond.  The trip included activities that would get us working as a team and activities included: hill-walking, kayaking, raft building, body boarding, and rock climbing, caving and orienteering.  These activities helped students to work together and build friendships.  We stayed two nights and three days and the trip was a thoroughly enjoyable experience where we got the opportunity to try out new activities and also the chance to get to know students from the three schools.   A big thanks is also extended to the teachers who supervised on this trip Ms.Reidy, Mr. Vaughan and Ms.Davern.
